I wonder when exactly it was that Star Trek stopped being perceived as light, fluffy, not-really-legitimate sci fi that ~housewives~ liked and started being seen as serious nerd business that girls had to keep their gross cooties off.

keeveet-talks

Also when did the Beatles start to be remembered as rock legends rather than a silly boy band teenaged girls liked?

schumie

When men decided they liked them.

startrektrashface

this is seriously exactly how it happened. Women were actually the first rock and roll ‘critics’ because they would write in to women’s papers and magazines to share and discuss what their kids were listening to when men still thought it was trashy teeny bopper music. once it became a lucrative, mainstream genre men shoved women out of the space. Men also tend to be gatekeepers once they move into formerly female spaces - early trek fandom was incredibly open and inclusive; women would set up fan get togethers in their own houses to discuss the show or invite the actors to visit before conventions became a thing, and then were huge in organizing the first conventions - but now the stereotype of a trekkie is a nerdy white dude who scoffs derisively at casual fans and newbies with his encyclopedic and pedantic knowledge of trek

I propose we call this “mentrification”

YES

MENTRIFICATION that’s genius

roachpatrol

by the way every single man i’ve ever explained this to is completely boggled to hear about it. they genuinely don’t fucking know. they’re always like ‘okay name a field this happened in’ and you’re like ‘beer. writing novels. gynecology. computers.’ and they’re completely fucking distraught. men didn’t invent beer???? men didn’t invent everything

electricgoblin

We can also witness the reverse happening, where women move into a space and suddenly it is deemed weak or unimportant. Some examples are teaching, nursing, and psychology.

…and any kind of clerical work.

every time i see or read a depiction of steven grant rogers as the simple cleanslicked embodiment of Truth! Justice! and the American Way! i just. get so tired. and offended. how dare you

robotmango

yeah

like on the outside, steven grant rogers is upsettingly beautiful and… smooth… and gives everyone sweaty thoughts about touching the american flag

but inside,
steven grant rogers is like… a wobbly shopping cart filled with rage and gallows humor and weird cats with chewed-up ears. he is that one locked wheel that won’t unstick no matter how hard you try to shove it forward, squealing, through the aisle. that wheel is immovable and furious for Justice Reasons. if it had to, if lives were at stake, that whole shopping cart would fight a wild bear or a helicopter or the devil himself. that cart would kick its own ass

THIS IS THE MOST GLORIOUS DESCRIPTION OF STEVE I’VE EVER SEEN I CAN’T

captain america steve rogers

Friendly reminder Steve Rogers is one of the youngest Avengers out of the group.

Friendly reminder that Steve Rogers was only 21 when he went through the super soldier experimentation.

Friendly reminder that when Steve Rogers was awoken in the modern century, for him it had only been a few weeks since he had lost Bucky.

Friendly reminder that Steve Rogers is only in his mid-twenties and still does everything he can to take care of those around him.

Friendly reminder that Steve Rogers has PTSD and severe depression, as shown in several of the movies and comics per his suicidal tendencies.

Friendly reminder that almost everyone Steve Rogers knew in 1943 was dead when he woke up, and he was faced with the ideal that he had outlived everyone he loved.

Friendly reminder that Steve Rogers still needs to make mistakes and be selfish, and still deserves to be loved and cherished. He isn’t like Iron Man or Hawkeye, he’s not lived any sort of life only battle and carnage. He deserves to have someone look after him everyone once and awhile.

Steve Rogers uses voice to text to send texts and formats them like a telegram

HEY BUCK STOP SAM AND I ARE OUT SHOPPING STOP WANT US TO PICK UP SOME TAKEOUT STOP

orangeyjuicy

Steve rogers fully understands that this is not the correct way to text. He just likes the absolute outrage it causes every time someone receives a text from him and wants to see how many times he can make the same people explain texting to him until they realize. Sam is currently at 14 times, beating out tony who’s at nine. Twice now shuri has facetimed him after reading bucky’s texts. He’s also managed to convince thor that this is the Earth Way to text and it’s great

Absolutely STUNNING commission I got at Fan Expo Dallas 2018 from the incredibly talented artist, Chris Stevens!

He’s a Marvel cover artist, and I absolutely fell in love with his work at the show.  This is amazingly a traditional media piece done with copic markers & watercolors and the detailwork on it is simply breathtaking - the blending - the textures…. @.@

I love his take on Bucky here - he turned out absolutely beautiful, I love the smoldering expression, the amazing chrome effects on the arm, and setting him against the center of Cap’s Shield symbol <3 <3

This one’s gonna get framed on the wall soon <3

And if you get the chance to meet him and his wife at a con, they were fantastic people and wonderful to chat with!

not to love steve rogers on main but wouldnt it be iconic if steve didnt die but he still passed on the captain america mantle to sam and went and lived in a little apartment in brooklyn, and in all the upcoming marvel movies the end credits scene is just steve sam and bucky eating cereal regardless of what the movie is about. just 3 minutes of them fighting over who put the empty milk carton back in the fridge (it was bucky)
